Cross Connetion Program:
Delivering a safe supply of drinking water to our customers is a top priority! Imagine your thirst
on a hot day, quenched by a glass of water fresh from your tap. What would you think or do if you later found out that glass of water
was contaminated with pesticide from your neighbor's spray tank! This is a very real possibility.
Because we have over 300 service connections, Timberline Rim Water Company is required by the Oregon
Health Division to carry out a cross connection control program. A cross connection allows the potential for backflow of non-potable
water or substance into the potable water distribution system.
The garden hose is the most common connection between an undesirable substance and the potable water distribution system. Typically,
the backflow happens when water pressure in the main is lowered to a point where water begins to flow in reverse of it's intended
direction. A broken main line or high-volume flow through a fire hydrant could reverse the normal flow. That garden hose submerged
in non-potable water or other substance might allow it to be pulled back through the hose and out into the main line in the street.
A water user between the submerged garden hose and the point of low pressure in the main could turn on their tap and receive contaminated
water.
As you can see, we need your help in preventing such a serious threat to our water customers.
If you have any questions regarding a potential cross connection, contact Audrey Edwards at the Timberline Rim office immediately.
The Timberline Rim Water Company takes very seriously our efforts to provide you with the highest quality of drinking water.
What is cross connection, and why should I care?
